We enjoyed a
nightcap at the Waldorf’s elegant King’s Court bar. Because the hotel does not
have an executive lounge (perhaps this has changed since our visit), we were
given a drink coupon for one complimentary cocktail per person. We were under
the mistaken impression that we would receive a coupon for each night of our
stay, but when we requested another coupon on the following night, the front
desk clerks laughed at us. What a horrible response to an honest error! At the
nightly prices that the Waldorf charges for even the most basic room (about
$400 USD), the nightly drink idea did not seem so far-fetched to us.
The lounge is spacious, with a long bar at the very back (where we sat to have our drinks, since we were the only patrons), many standard-height tables and chairs in the middle, and some sofas and comfortable lounge chairs (along with coffee tables and benches) toward the front. The space enjoys a wall of curved-top windows that allow in light. The restaurant serves a dairy menu and afternoon tea, in addition to drinks.
