  • Sarasota: Drunken Poet Cafe (March 2010)

My spouse and I dined with two family members for dinner at the Drunken Poet Cafe in mid-March 2010. With dishes to suit all tastes, sophisticated dining has never been so much fun! Try the Poet’s famousrolls to explore new flavors, or order the Pad Thai for a traditional dish with an awesome presentation. Located on Main St. in downtown Sarasota, just past the intersection of Main and Orange, the Drunken Poet Cafe is reinventing Japanese and Thai cuisine. The restaurant was nominated for “Sarasota’s Best Sushi” for 2008.

Sarasota: Cinco de Mayo (March 2010)

My spouse and I dined with two family members for dinner at Cinco de Mayo in mid-March 2010.  For tasty Mexican fare, Sarasota's Cinco De Mayo is hard to top. Low-fat foods are not on the menu at Cinco De Mayo, though, so plan to indulge a bit. Enjoy a drink with your dinner — Cinco De Mayo has a full bar to serve up a glass of wine, beer, or more. Dine out in the open during Cinco De Mayo's summer season when patio tables are available for use. No need to put on airs for a trip to Cinco De Mayo — the dress code and ambience at this restaurant are totally laid-back. Carry-out is also available for those who prefer to enjoy Cinco De Mayo's cooking from the comfort of their own home. Cinco De Mayo is known for serving great food, and they are able to serve it at your next event with their excellent catering. You'll like your bill almost as much as your meal at Cinco De Mayo, with meals usually costing less than $15. Cinco de Mayo offers great food, great prices, and great staff. Mexican food really isn't too hard to come by in Sarasota, so  there really has to be something else that makes a place stand out, and at Cinco De Mayo it is the wait staff - they are fun and only add to the experience. The food is fresh and comes out fast and the waitstaff really makes it a pleasant experience. There are many places to eat downtown that are stuffy, so relax, sit outside, and have fun at Cinco De Mayo!

    Sarasota: Ceviche Tapas (March 2010)

My spouse and I dined with two family members for dinner at Ceviche Tapas Bar and Restaurant in mid-March 2010.Experience Ceviche and Escape to Spain! Ceviche Tapas Bar and Restaurant is a unique restaurant concept where atmosphere, culture, and food blend perfectly into one. The flare and flavors of Spain are carefully blended together to create a unique dining and entertainment experience. The menu consists of over one hundred tapas to share, influenced by traditional dishes from old Spain. Authentic ingredients are imported directly from Spain and house specialties include an incredible selection of ceviches, paellas, piquillos rellenos, gambas al ajillo and the ever-famous patatas bravas. Traditional Spanish desserts including flan and tres leches are homemade in the restaurant. Sparkling Cava pitchers of Sangria are prepared table-side. The unique dining ambiance provides for an intimate dinner, casual night with friends or dancing the night away in the Flamenco Lounge. The restaurant was named ‘Top Twenty New Restaurants in Florida’ by Florida Trend Magazine, “Top Ten Restaurants in Tampa Bay” by USA Today and has an Very Good to Excellent Zagat rating. The restaurant offers incredible tapas and intimate ambiance while still maintaining a distinct atmosphere and experience. Enjoy the rooftop bar in Sarasota.

Sarasota: Caragiulos (March 2011, March 2010, March 2009)

My spouse and I have eaten at Caragiulos several times with family members in March 2011, March 2010, and March 2009. At Caragiulos, the food speaks for itself. Using the finest ingredients, Caragiulos has served easy- going, inventive Italian-American comfort food since 1989. The bread is baked on the premises each morning. The mozzarella is made fresh. The biscotti is still baked by Mrs. Caragiulo herself. Eating here is more like a gathering in the home of a good friend… comfortable and memorable.

Sarasota: C'est La Vie (March 2011)

My spouse and I have dined several times at C’est La Vie with family members, most recently in March 2011 and March 2010. It's easy to forget that you're in Florida and not France on your visit to C'est La Vie. When owners Christophe and Geraldine moved to Sarasota 15 years ago, it was their mission to bring an authentic French bistro experience to America. C'est la Vie opened its doors in 1997 and was one of the first restaurants downtown to offer outdoor seating like many of the established bistros in France. Popular menu items at C'est la Vie are quiche, crepes, croissants, and sandwiches made on freshly-baked bread. Most of the recipes are Christophe's own creation, although some were passed down from parents who ran their own restaurant in Paris when he was a child.

    Sarasota: Brasserie Belge (March 2010)

My spouse and I dined at Brasserie Belge with several family members in March of 2010. For a taste of what it’s like to dine in Europe, check out the romantic Brasserie Belge to get a sense! Authentic and delicious Belgian food prepared and served traditionally with friendly, relaxed service. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. By the time he was 20, Christian Zebier was serving as maitre d'hotel for a prestigious restaurant in Belgium. After a five-year stint teaching primary school, he realized that his heart lay in hospitality, and that children have terrible table manners. The first business Zebier began, Air du Temps, deployed an elite staff to serve such distinguished parties as the Belgian royal family.  Zebier stuffed his fine-tuned sense of hospitality into a suitcase and brought it to the United States, where he opened Brasserie Belge. He felt that Sarasota's open-minded, well-traveled residents could appreciate the traditional ambiance of a brasserie. The restaurant's attentive staff serves a menu of Belgian cuisine, such as Prince Edward Island mussels delivered fresh every morning and served with one of 12 styles of belgian fries. On the leather couches of the piano lounge, patrons enjoy Belgian beers, specialty martinis, and small plates.

Sarasota: Barnacle Bill's Seafood on Main (March 2010)

My spouse and I dined at Barnacle Bill's Seafood on Main for lunch in March of 2010. Barnacle Bill's restaurants are owned and operated by William Davis. From the beginning, his obsession was to provide the absolute best and freshest in seafood and other fare. William Davis' mission to provide the best seafood and other dishes in the Sarasota area, led him to search and find the very best sources for seafood and other delicious menu items anywhere in the world. Owner Chef William Davis invites you to come in and experience the full benefit of seafood at its best and other excellent menu items at both Barnacle Bill's locations.
