My spouse and I visited Ocean
Terrace at Georges at the Cove for lunch on a Saturday afternoon in early July
2018. The restaurant is open daily from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm (with extended
closing hours on weekends until 11:00 pm). You can make a reservation using the
online Open Table system.
Georges at the Cove and Ocean
Terrace are located on Prospect Street (the main shopping and strolling thoroughfare)
in La Jolla. The restaurants occupy three levels, and each floor offers a different
kind of dining: Ocean Terrace (on the third/top floor) offers casual outdoor
rooftop dining. Level2 (on the second floor/street level) is known for its
cocktails, and California Modern (on the first floor, which is actually below
street level) offers a fine-dining a la carte menu. Although most patrons walk
between levels, elevator accommodation is available if necessary. All floors
offer great views of the Pacific Ocean.
We dined at the all-outdoor Ocean
Terrace, which offers seating at mostly regular-height tables or at a few
high-top tables designed for diners to see over the other tables. Ocean Terrace
also offers an elevated bar platform so that patrons can enjoy the views from
either the bar or from banquette seating behind it. The mostly white outdoor
furnishings and umbrellas provide a clean look/feel, and a few pops of chartreuse
green act as accent colors.
Ocean Terrace serves modern California cuisine. At our server’s excellent suggestion,
we shared the ceviche to start. The enormous portion of finely diced white fish
and garden veggies (tomato, pepper, onion) was served with house-made tortilla
chips. As entrees, we ordered the fish tacos (served with substituted French
fries instead of tortilla chips, since we had already eaten the chips as our
appetizer) and the banh mi sandwich (accompanied by an excellent green side
salad). Portions were hearty, and the food incorporated quality ingredients.
For dessert, we shared the banoffee sticky pudding (a delicious concoction of
toffee cake served with caramelized bananas, nut brittle, and vanilla ice
cream).
We enjoyed our al fresco lunch at
Ocean Terrace at Georges at the Cove; the food was good, the service was great,
and the view was stunning!
