Kuro (July 2018) – Our Server Sent Us a Thank You Note Afterward!
My spouse and I dined at Kuro for dinner on a Saturday
evening in mid-July 2018. The restaurant is open for dinner on Wednesdays
through Mondays (closed Tuesdays) from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm (with extended
closing hours on weekends). You can make a reservation online through the Hard
Rock Hotel website (which uses the Seven Room system); you’ll receive a
confirmation email at the time of booking, then another one the day prior to
your dine asking you to confirm online.
Kuro opened in July 2018 at Atlantic City’s Hard Hotel and Rock
Casino (which replaced the Trump Taj Mahal). It is located along the
pathway/hallway of the hotel’s restaurants, nearest Council Oak Fish (which is
positioned adjacent to the boardwalk). If you access Kuro from the heart of the
casino, you will pass many of the hotel’s other restaurants including the YOUYU
Noodle Bar, Plum Lounge, Il Mulino, Robert’s Steakhouse, and Song.
Patrons dine at tables of all shapes and sizes, some of
which share a padded banquette on one side, true individual booths, counter
seating at the sushi bar and in front of another food prep area, or at the tiny
drinks bar (mostly meant for service). Wavy wooden ceiling, patterned
carpeting, tables arranged on two levels (one level is a few steps up from the
other), neutral colors, and dim lighting complete the decor. The hotel appeared
to be completing a “water wall” feature near the host stand.
Kuro serves contemporary Japanese cuisine. We shared a bunch
of dishes: the crispy Brussel sprouts (different than we’ve had elsewhere
because it was an entire yummy plate of separated leaves), tuna crispy rice
(spicy tuna and caviar), a cold noodle dish, crispy whitefish, beef negima
(ribeye, scallions), seabass (which arrived wrapped in sous-vide paper that the
server delicately cut open with a small scissors). Although we are sushi fans,
the composed hot and cold dishes sounded so good that we decided to forgo the raw
fish. The restaurant offers a full bar as well (beer, whisky, shochu, sake,
wine, and cocktails).
We loved our dinner at Kuro! The food was creative and
delicious, and the service was outstanding - our server even sent us a (snail
mail) note afterward to thank us for dining there!
