Atlantic City: LandShark Bar and Grill (July 2018)

My spouse and I visited the LandShark Bar and Grill on a Friday afternoon in mid-July 2018. In season, the bar/restaurant is open daily from 10:00 am to 1:00 am (with extended closing hours until 2:00 am on weekends). Winter hours are abbreviated, opening at 12:00 noon and closing at 8:00 pm (with extended closing hours until 10:00 pm on weekends). LandShark also offers a retail store where you can buy souvenirs.

The bar/restaurant is owned by Jimmy Buffet’s company, the Margaritaville Hospitality Group. Although there are over 30 domestic and international locations of Margaritaville, Atlantic City is only one of two LandShark locations (the other is in Daytona Beach FL). The restaurant group also operates the Cheeseburger in Paradise and 5 O’Clock Somewhere chains, as well as some Margaritaville hotels and cruise ship venues. The Atlantic City location of LandShark Bar and Grill is operated by Resorts Casino, and it is located on the beach side of the Boardwalk. (In fact, LandShark is the only permanent year-round full-service establishment located directly on the sand; all other beach bars are seasonal.) LandShark is located on the site of the old Steeplechase Pier, within close proximity to the existing Steel Pier.

The LandShark property offers indoors seating at the bar, at booths, or at tables. Décor is beachy with lots of surfing memorabilia. You can also sit outdoors on a large deck that surrounds two sides of the building, under cover of a roof, with plastic sides can be rolled down in cooler weather and heaters positioned around the outdoor space. The indoor and deck areas seat more than 400 people! In season, you can also hang out in a third area located directly on the beach at a small bar or on Adirondack chairs and other outdoor furniture near the fire pit, corn-hole game, wooden dancefloor, and within view of the often-present DJs.

LandShark Bar and Grill serves American cuisine. We stopped in for some drinks (a LandShark beer, of course, and a yummy non-alcoholic pineapple coconut smoothie), so we only shared an order of their fries topped with cheese and bacon. Truthfully, we have had much better “loaded” fries elsewhere, but the service was good and the atmosphere was fun.

We enjoyed our time on the deck at LandShark Bar and Grill – the fun and festive beachfront atmosphere was a great place for a drink and snack.
