My spouse and I dined at Maison Blanche on a Monday evening
in late August 2017. The restaurant is open daily from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm
for lunch, and from 6:00 pm until 11:00 pm for dinner. You can reserve a table
online using “The Fork” website. We stayed nearby at the Villa Lara, and it was
less than a 7-minute walk to the restaurant.
Maison Blanche, whose name translates to “The White House”,
is located on a quiet side street in historic Bayeux. You can dine indoors, or
on their sidewalk terrace. On the night that we visited, huge bouquets of
long-stemmed red roses adorned the outdoor tables. The cozy interior is decorated
in tones of red. A front window with a shadowbox displays D-Day memorabilia.
Maison Blanche serves traditional French cuisine. A
chalkboard with specials is brought to each table if you prefer to order a
special rather than from the standard menu. Indoors, a piano holds discounted
bottles of wine. As we perused the menu, our server delivered a complimentary
salmon spread with bread. As our starters, we ordered the veloute de moules
(curried mussel soup) and the salad terre mar (surf and turf, comprised of foie
gras, a tiny salad, goat cheese sorbet, and shrimp). For our main dishes, we
chose the bar roti (sea bass) and the carre agneau (lamb). For two starters,
two mains, and two rounds of drinks (2 beers and 2 sodas), our bill totaled 97
Euros.
We liked our al fresco dinner at Maison Blanche: fine food
and service and a calm environment in which to enjoy them.
