Enumclaw: Kelly's Mercantile (August 2014)

My spouse and I dined at Kelly’s Mercantile (“the Merc”) for lunch on a Saturday afternoon in early August 2014. (Previously, this restaurant was called Mountain Air Mercantile.) Kelly’s Mercantile is open daily for breakfast and lunch, and on some evenings for dinner. We drove through Enumclaw on our way to the Sunrise entrance of Mount Rainier in the northeast corner of the park near Greenwater and Crystal Mountain.

Kelly’s Mercantile is located on Cole Street, which, in addition to Griffin Avenue, is one of the main thoroughfares of Enumclaw. The restaurant is located in the busy downtown area, among several other restaurants and shops. The town provides complimentary on-street parking, as well as free parking in a public lot directly across the street from the restaurant.

With the exception of two tiny two-person tables on the sidewalk, the majority of seating at Kelly’s occurs indoors. One side of the restaurant offers traditional table and bar seating, and the other side functions as a coffee house / takeout deli. The previous establishment sold merchandise, but Kelly’s now focuses on food, although it still sells consumables like wine and coffee, in addition to greeting cards and small gift items. The restaurant offers wine-tasting events and live music on some evenings.

We ordered two sandwiches: one Reuben sandwich made of corned beef and sauerkraut on grilled rye bread, and one turkey sandwich was turkey. The restaurant served both sandwiches with a choice of packaged flavored potato chips. Afterwards, we shared a warm chocolate-chip cookie for dessert.

The food was tasty, and the service was friendly and pleasant. We had a good experience at Kelly’s Mercantile.
