My spouse and I dined at La Bocca for dinner on a Wednesday evening in
early August 2014. We did not have a reservation, but we waited only a
few minutes for the hostess to seat us at a table for two on the edge of
the raised stone patio. La Bocca is open for breakfast, lunch, and
dinner daily.
La Bocca is located toward the middle of the
Village Stroll (in the Village Square), near the grocery store and the
liquor store. We did not see any stand-up propane heaters present,
although the restaurant must have them. (Even though it was summertime,
it was cool at night, and we would have welcomed the warmth.) The
interior of the bar features red walls with a stone floor and contains
seating at regular tables as well as at the bar; however, terrace
seating is highly desired. Bright yellow umbrellas cover tables that
line the patio; colorful planters filled with flowers surround the
tables.
We shared an appetizer of duck drumettes (duck legs
served with a glaze, an upscale version of chicken wings), followed by
entrees of seafood risotto and a beef soba noodle bowl. The duck
drumettes and beef soba noodles were tasty, but the seafood risotto was
disappointing because it contained mostly rice and mussels, but not
other kinds of seafood.
Service was painfully slow on the evening
that we dined. We like to take our time when we eat, and we were not in
a hurry as we sat on the patio watching the parade of foot traffic, but
our dinner lasted nearly three hours for two courses, which was too
long!
Although our dinner was fine, we will try another restaurant in Whistler before we return to La Bocca.
