The Back Forty restaurant is located in Downtown Vancouver on Robson Street, across the street from the main entrance to BC Place Stadium (where the British Columbia Lions Canadian football team plays) and the Hampton Inn & Suites. The restaurant offers limited parking in an off-street surface parking lot, and additional public parking lots and street parking are available nearby. A large meat smoker occupies one corner of the parking lot. (The restaurant smokes much of its meat in-house.)
The restaurant features both indoor
and outdoor dining. Outdoor dining is available on a fenced patio adjacent to
the parking lot. Only picnic-table seating is available outdoors, and the
tables are topped with umbrellas. Inside, the restaurant features a long bar as
well as table seating, both at regular-height tables and at high-top tables.
The high-tops tables are in the majority, and they are arranged closely
together; one side of the high tops shares wooden banquette booth seating.
Televisions cover many of the walls, so you can watch several televised
sporting events at the same time.
For an appetizer, we shared a poutine of fries, gravy, and cheese curds with an add-on of "burnt ends" (the crispy ends of meat after it is smoked; pieces that are too crunchy to serve as sandwich meat or entrees). For entrees, we shared a Caesar salad (which is topped with your choice of protein such as chicken or salmon) and the fried chicken meal (which is served in a small metal bucket accompanied by fries and cole slaw). For dessert, we shared a seasonal berry cake.
The Back Forty offers a reasonably priced meal in casual surroundings.
