Pittsburgh (September 2018)

My spouse and I spent the weekend in Pittsburgh in early September 2018 in order to attend the University of Pittsburgh - Penn State football game, the third in the series for the teams (unfortunately Pitt lost). We arrived early Friday evening and finally got the chance to try the latest of Rich DeShantz’s restaurants, Pork and Beans, which was great! (We have an excellent BBQ joint in our hometown, but this was even better; not Texas good, but close.) On Saturday, because the football game was at night, we attended a baseball game at PNC Park. (Embarrassingly, although I’ve been visiting Pittsburgh for almost 25 years, I had never been to a game there. And lately I’ve been on a MLB ballpark quest, checking Yankee Stadium, Camden Yards, Citizens Bank Park, Fenway Park, Comerica Park, Safeco Field, and Wrigley Field off my list.) Unfortunately it rained all day, only lightly during the baseball game, but harder afterwards and through the football game. We tried a new North Shore “tailgating” restaurant called Southern Tier Brewery, and it was fortunate that we had some family members with us who were able to pull some strings to get us a table, because it was mayhem that day with all the out-of-town fans visiting for the game.
