Note: This review pertains to TREE restaurant at the
adult-oriented Lodge at Woodloch – a Destination Spa; it does not describe
dining at the family-friendly sister property Woodloch Pines Resort. Also, we
were not overnight guests at the Lodge; instead, we visited for lunch only.
Besides dining in the restaurant, day guests are also invited to visit the spa.
My spouse and I dined at TREE Restaurant at The Lodge at
Woodloch on a Sunday afternoon in late July 2017. The dining room is currently
open to the public, although you must pass through a guarded gate to access the
property. You are also requested to utilize the complimentary valet parking (but
don’t forget to provide a gratuity).
The Lodge at Woodloch is a notable AAA four diamond property
located in Hawley Pennsylvania in the Pocono Mountains. The resort offers over
400 acres of land for hiking, bicycling, snow-shoeing, and bird-watching, or
one of the myriad activities in the 15-acre lake (including stand-up paddle
boarding, kayaking, and fishing). You can also visit the spa, fitness center, indoor
swimming pool (with a waterfall feature in its glass-enclosed atrium), outdoor
whirlpool with waterfall (and sundeck), or art studio. Of course, you can
always just relax in one of the many lounge areas both indoors and out, such as
by the fire circle, in a rocking chair on the screened in porch, or in front of
a stone fireplace.
TREE restaurant offers several areas, including a bar, a
main dining room, two smaller adjacent dining rooms, and a chef’s kitchen. The
spaces feature high vaulted wood-beamed ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows
that provide views of the foliage in the warmer months and of the nearby lake
once the leaves fall. The chef’s kitchen offers space for cooking
demonstrations and special event dinners. Initially after spying the main
dining room over the hostess’s shoulder, we worried that we might not be
dressed appropriately, but she assured us that lunch was quite casual; in fact,
some diners were even wrapped in bathrobes after just departing completing a
spa service. (More business casual dress is requested at dinnertime.)
The restaurant’s spa cuisine features farm-raised meats and
fish and organic, locally grown vegetables. The resort property includes
several gardens where herbs and produce are grown. Hotel packages include three
meals a day in TREE restaurant. For lunch, guests help themselves to a small
salad bar area that offers produce, breads, soup, and simple desserts, followed
by a plated/served entrée ordered from the daily menu. We were impressed with
the number of lunch offerings: perhaps 12 choices, from lighter, healthier fare
such as fish and chicken, vegetarian entrees, sandwiches, and even a hamburger,
along with a few daily specials. We shared the Cuban panini (served with your
choice of Terra chips or steamed edamame) and the mahi mahi (served with fancy
brown rice and topped with a fruit salsa/relish). Note that the lunch menu does
not contain any prices; all entrees (which come with the salad bar as
described) cost $30 per person, and the resort adds an 18% automatic gratuity
to your bill.
We enjoyed our lunch at TREE Restaurant the Lodge at
Woodloch. We were impressed with the friendly reception we received (from the
front-gate guard to the valets to the restaurant hostesses), despite being only
day visitors.
