New York: Kelly's NYC (February 2017)

Kelly’s Sports Bar NYC - Drinks at a “Neighborhood Watering Hole”

My spouse and I visited Kelly’s Sports Bar NYC on a Sunday afternoon in mid-February 2017. We were looking for a bar at which to enjoy a few happy hour drinks, and Kelly’s fit the bill. Kelly’s proclaims itself as the official home to fans of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Chicago Cubs, and Wisconsin Badgers, and we hear that it gets crowded when one of those games is broadcast.

Reportedly, “Timeout” magazine once proclaimed Kelly’s as the “Top Hockey Bar in NYC”. Kelly’s is open daily from noon until the early morning hours. Kelly’s is located in the East Village near the intersection of Avenue A (between East Houston/First Street) and Second Street. The small space includes a long bar, a few beer barrel tables, some standing room, several TVs, a jukebox, and a bubble hockey game. The décor is “dive-y”, but the atmosphere is friendly. The bar does not usually offer food, but you can bring it in from other places. Although Kelly’s Sports Bar fit our needs for a late afternoon drink, with so many competitors just steps away, we might try another establishment next time.
