New York City: The Rum House

My spouse and I had drinks at the Rum House on a Friday afternoon for Happy Hour in late May 2016. (Their weekday Happy Hour is quite generous, running from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm.) The Rum House is located on West 47th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue) in Times Square/Theater District; it is the bar for the Edison Hotel. The Rum House is open daily from 12:00 noon to 4:00 am. The owners of The owners of the Rum House also operate Ward II in Tribeca. The Rum House, which has existed in the hotel for over 30+ years, was revamped in 2011 to showcase dark wood paneling, tile floors, red leather cushions/banquette, antique mirrors, a wooden bar with a copper bar, an upright piano, and interesting circular lighting. Live piano and jazz play nightly. The food menu is limited to simple bar snacks (popcorn, nuts, pretzels), but the expertly crafted cocktails (we enjoyed a pisco sour topped with frothy egg whites) and quality spirits make up for it. Bonus movie trivia: If you saw the 2015 Oscar-award-winning Michael Keaton film “Birdman”, two of the scenes were filmed at The Rum House.
