Come and be our guests this summer at Glacier
View Campground. We are open from June through
mid September with July and August
being the most popular months of travel. Be
prepared for hot days and cool nights as temperatures can easily vary 40
degrees.
Layered clothing is recommended and don't forget
the bug dope. The town of McCarthy is a one mile walk from camp across
Kennicott
River foot bridges. The mining town of Kennicott
is five miles further up the hill and is accessible by Van Service,
Bicycles,
or on Foot. Activities in the area include
Glacier Hiking, Flight Seeing, Rafting, and Wildlife Viewing. Look for
our sign
at mile 59 and we'll see you where the road ends
and the adventure begins!
Glacier View Campground is located approximately 300 miles East of Anchorage in The Wrangell St. Elias National Park near the historic mining towns of Kennicott and McCarthy Alaska. The campground is accessed by driving to the end of The McCarthy Road. The McCarthy Road is a gravel spur road that runs from the end of the Edgerton Highway in Chitina, Alaska, to about 1 mile outside of the "Must Visit Destination" of McCarthy, Alaska. It is a totally unique Alaskan Campground that also offers cozy cabins located near the end of the McCarthy Road in the heart of the Wrangell St. Elias National Park.
