My spouse and I visited the 21st Amendment for
lunch on a Thursday afternoon in early January 2020. We were staying at the
Holiday Inn Capitol, so the restaurant provided a convenient place for a meal.
The restaurant/bar is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and late night.
The restaurant takes its name from the 21st Amendment to the US
Constitution, which repealed the 18th Amendment and ended the
nationwide prohibition on alcoholic beverages.
The restaurant is located on the street level of the Holiday
Inn Capitol. Although the main entrance to the hotel is located on C Street SW,
guests can access the restaurant from 6th Street SW as well as from
inside the hotel itself. The space includes a side dining room as well as the
main dining space that includes a bar. In warmer weather, al fresco sidewalk
dining is also available. Besides the 21st Amendment, there are not
a lot of other dining options closeby, particularly if you want full-service
(including a glass of wine) for dinner and/or on weekends.
The 21st Amendment serves American cuisine. We ordered
two sandwiches: the turkey panini (with bacon, tomato, cheese, and mustard on
ciabatta) and the food truck rollover (grilled chicken, lettuce, avocado,
cheddar, and chimichurri sauce in a flour tortilla); both sandwiches came with
a choice of fries or chips. The fries were called “Sidewinder” and were a
unique crinkle-cut curly shape that we had not seen before. The same menu is
available at lunch and dinner, with appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches
and burgers, entrees, and desserts. The establishment offers a full liquor
license, so you can enjoy beer, wine, and cocktails with your meal.
We enjoyed our lunch at 21st Amendment.
