Pittsburgh: Biergarten (September 2017)

Biergarten - Fun Rooftop Venue

My spouse and I enjoyed drinks at the Biergarten on a Saturday afternoon in late September 2017. We stayed downstairs at the Kimpton Monaco hotel, and the Biergarten is the one of the dining/drinking venues. Weather-permitting, the venue opens at 4:00 pm Tuesdays through Fridays and at 12:00 noon on Saturdays (closed on Sundays and Mondays).

The Biergarten opened in May 2015 on the ninth floor of the hotel overlooking William Penn Place. The venue is completely open-air with no indoor space, so it is a nice-weather bar only; however, it offers a few gas-lit heaters to extend its season. The rooftop offers seating for almost 90 guests at communal high-top and fancy picnic tables or at round or square tables (wood with bright-green trim). Only a service bar is present; there is no bar at which to sit and drink. The rooftop area offers a selection of outdoor games such as super-sized chess, Jenga, Connect Four, and corn hole.

The Biergarten serves draft and bottled beer and seasonal frozen cocktails, along with a concise menu of select German-influenced options (such as soft pretzels, nuts, bratwurst sandwiches, and apple strudel). We tried a yummy frozen coconut-flavored cocktail called the “Suburban Beverage” (which you can request in a take-home tiki mug for an additional fee).

We enjoyed our al fresco happy hour at the Kimpton Monaco’s Biergarten.
