Pearlz Oyster Bar - Vibrant Bar/Restaurant in the Historic District
My spouse and I visited Pearlz Oyster Bar for a drink on a
Saturday evening in mid-November 2016. We arrived a bit early for our dinner
reservation at next-door neighbor McCrady’s Restaurant, and because the
tasting-only McCrady’s does not offer a bar, we stopped in at Pearlz to pass
the time. Pearlz opens on weekdays at 3:00 pm, and on weekends at 12:00 noon. The
restaurants does not accept reservations, but you can wait at the long bar, or
you can join other diners at a communal table.
The Homegrown Hospitality Group (HHG) owns four locations of
Pearlz Oyster Bar; in addition to the Charleston location, visit Pearlz in
Columbia, West Ashley, and Ballantyne NC. The HHG also operates Kaminsky’s
Dessert Café and The Barksdale House Inn (both in Charleston), TBonz Gill and
Grill (Charleston, Myrtle Beach, West Ashley, August and Evans GA), Liberty
Brewery and Grill (Myrtle Beach and High Point), Liberty Tap Room and Grill
(Myrtle Beach, Ormo, Columbia, Mount Pleasant, Greenville), Rioz Brazilian
Steakhouse (Columbia, Myrtle Beach), Flying Fish Public Market and Grill
(Myrtle Beach), and TBonz Steakhouse (Augusta).
Pearlz is located
on busy East Bay Street in the French Quarter neighborhood of the Historic
District. The restaurant interior features high ceilings, a drinks bar, a raw
bar, communal (community) tables, and booths. Pearlz also offers outdoor
seating on the sidewalk.
Pearlz Oyster Bar
offers seafood, including raw shellfish, local seafood, Lowcountry dishes, and
regional favorites. The raw bar features a variety of shellfish, including
Lowcountry and Gulf oysters as well as specialty oysters (served steamed, fresh
on the half-shell, and as oyster shooters). The menu features starters, soups
and salads, sandwiches, burgers, and tacos, and entrees (including fish and
chips, shrimp and grits, fried shrimp, and so on). Pearlz offers a children’s
menu, and it offers happy hour specials at its full bar that offers beer, wine,
and cocktails.
Although we did not eat a meal at Pearlz, it looked like a
fun, bustling atmosphere where you could enjoy some seafood.
