Montenegro: San Giovanni Caffe Bar (August 2016)

My spouse and I dined at San Giovanni Caffee Bar for lunch on a Sunday afternoon in late August 2016. After we finished a walking tour of Old Town Kotor, we searched for a restaurant that offered refreshments and looked cool on a hot sunny day. San Giovanni offers terrace dining on quality outdoor furniture beneath huge umbrellas and in front of large misting fans. The restaurant is located near the main city gate on the Square of Arms (Trg od Oruzja), within view of the sixteenth-century clock tower, Venetian Arsenal, Town Hall, Bizanti Palace, and Prince’s Palace.

This restaurant, which has been in business for over 20 years, serves international cuisine, including sandwiches, entrees, and desserts. In fact, their outdoor refrigerated dessert display case was one of the things that drew us to San Giovanni. The menu is tourist-friendly, with selections in multiple languages, accompanied by photographs. San Giovanni also offers a full liquor license, including beer, wine, and cocktails.

We shared a chicken roll (chicken rolled with ham and cheese in a variation of “cordon bleu” [this dish was not a sandwich]) and a hamburger (which was served on a sort of thin floppy pita), both of which the restaurant served with fries. Along with a few rounds of drinks, our bill totaled 34 Euros. Later in the day, we returned to San Giovanni for a sweet treat. We tried to visit a few alternate restaurants for dessert and drinks, but we were unable to find a cafe that served more than ice cream as dessert. In pleasant contrast, the large selection of attractively displayed desserts at San Giovanni looked amazing!

Overall, San Giovanni Caffe Bar is a solid choice for an outdoor meal in Old Town Kotor.
