My spouse and I enjoyed dinner at Taverna/Buffet Kamenice on
a Friday evening in late August 2016. Despite its name, this is a sit-down
restaurant with table service, not a “buffet” restaurant. The word “kamenice” in
the restaurant’s name means “oyster”. We noticed this restaurant during a walk
through Old Town when we encountered bustling Poljana Square, the
statue of poet Ivan Gundulic, and the open-air Gunduliceva Poljana Market that operates until noon. Taverna Kamenice
is located near other restaurants (such the Café/Brasserie Royal at the Pucic
Palace and Veritas). Kamenice lies within view of the monumental Baroque
staircase that leads to Ruder Boskovic Square, where the Church of St. Ignatius
of Loyola (Crkva sveti Ignacija) and the Jesuit
College (Jesuite Collegium Ragusinum) are located. The restaurant is open daily
for lunch and dinner; however, it has abbreviated winter hours.
Taverna/Buffet Kamenice offers a small indoor seating area
and a large terrace with umbrellas-shaded tables. The restaurant provides
generous portions of simple dishes (with an emphasis on seafood) for reasonable
prices. The restaurant has a full liquor license so that you can enjoy beer,
wine, or cocktails, along with non-alcoholic beverages. We shared two entrees:
black cuttlefish risotto (rizot crni) and shrimp risotto (rizot OD gambora),
along with two rounds of drinks and one large bottle of water, for a total of
256 Kuna ($37).
You will leave Taverna/Buffet Kamenice full and satisfied.
