My spouse and I dined at Trica Gardelin for lunch on a
Wednesday afternoon in late August 2016. We visited Hvar on a day trip from
Split, and we hired a taxi to drive us out to Vrbotska, which is called the
“Little Venice of Croatia”. After we walked along the canal and investigated
the harbor area, we stopped at Trica Gardelin. The restaurant is open for
breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and it accepts reservations.
The restaurant is
located on the harborfront facing the water. It is the closest restaurant to
the marina itself. Trica Gardelin offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Al
fresco seating offers umbrella-topped tables (or tables beneath a canopy) on a
side terrace surrounded by colorful potted flowers. This restaurant appears to
be a family-owned business, with members of all ages working there; when we
visited, the youngest of their children amused themselves by playing on the
pedestrian-only street that lies between the restaurant and the harbor.
Trica
Gardelin offers Dalmatian and Italian cuisine. As we perused the menu, our
waiter brought pita bread with a fish pate to spread on it. We ordered the
brodetto (fish) and the teleci kotlet (veal cutlet). For two entrees, two
rounds of drinks, and a large bottle of water, our bill totaled 322 Kunas ($47
USD), which we paid using a credit card. This restaurant offers a full liquor
license, including beer, wine, and cocktails. Trica Gardelin also offers fresh
fish that you can choose yourself from a glass display case or fish tank.
We enjoyed our lunch at Trica Gardelin as we sat near the
water and observed the relaxed pace of life in Vrbotska.
