My spouse and I visited the Nostress Bistro for dinner on a
Tuesday evening in late August 2016. Nostress is open daily for breakfast,
lunch, dinner, drinks, and late-night refreshments. The restaurant accepts
reservations.
Nostress Bistro is located on Ulica Iza Loze in Folk Square
Piazza (Pjaca Narodni Trg) next to the fifteenth century City Hall. It occupies
the former fourteenth century Renaissance palace of the Karepic family, which
displays Gothic and Romanesque elements. On the building’s façade, the family
coat of arms and an inscription explain the Renaissance renovations made during
the sixteenth century. A large al fresco terrace (covered by an awning)
provides guests with front-row seats to observe Croatian life, and the outdoor
dining area is decorated with attractive potted plants and flowers.
Nostress serves innovative and interesting Croatian cuisine.
We shared a pasta dish as a starter (fettucini with a meat ragu, which we think
contained chicken because the Croatian-to-English literal translation was “long
hard boiled c*ck”, which made us chuckle!), followed by a fish main course
(pistachio-crusted sea bass accompanied by fingerling potatoes and summer
vegetables and fruits like crispy onions and mandarin oranges), and several rounds
of drinks. Our bill totaled 442K ($64 USD). We tried to share a dessert, but
our server delivered it to another table by mistake; in order to compensate for
the error, the owner offered us each a complimentary rakija (grappa). A mistake
can happen, but how a restaurant recognizes and corrects it is a true sign of
character.
We enjoyed the creative, seasonal dishes at Nostress Caffee
Bar Bistro. Highly recommended!
