Lake Placid: Whiteface Lodge (July 2019)

Whiteface Lodge –Resembles an Adirondack Great Camp Lodge

My spouse and I visited Whiteface Lodge on a Sunday afternoon in early July 2019. (Note that we did not stay at the Lodge, but only explored the property as sightseers.) The Lodge is located within a 1.5-mile walk of Lake Placid and the village. Both self-parking (complimentary) and valet parking are available. The main building features an impressive rustic log/timber design. We had hoped to enjoy an al fresco drink and snack on the day that we visited, but we regrettably discovered that the daytime restaurant (Peak 47) does not offer outdoor seating. Although the more formal Kanu restaurant is not open for lunch, w peeked inside to admire its gorgeous vaulted beamed ceilings, twin stone fireplaces, antler chandeliers, and mounted animal heads. (This dining room adjoins to a small covered deck where perhaps outdoor dining is available in the evenings.) Adirondack furniture and colorful area rugs grace the interior public spaces on the property. We wandered outside to overlook the gated outdoor pool area, which also has an indoor component. The property offers additional amenities like a spa, fitness center, ice cream parlor, movie theatre, game room, bowling, tennis courts, and fishing, plus ice skating in the winter. The Lodge’s nearby Canoe Club offers waterfront space for swimming and paddling, as well as casual dining. (We did not visit the Canoe Club for drinks/snacks [which surely had outdoor seating] because we thought that it was reserved for hotel guests only.) We loved the feel of the Whiteface Lodge, and we would consider staying there on our next visit to Lake Placid, although it does seem a bit family-oriented for us as a childless couple.
