My spouse and I dined at the
Pickled Pig for dinner on a Thursday evening in early July 2019. The Pickled
Pig is open daily for lunch, dinner, drinks, late night, and in-between. Diners
can book a spot using the online Open Table
reservation system; however, walk-ins are also accepted.
The Pickled Pig is located on
Main Street, across from the high school, speed skating oval, and the Olympic hockey
complex/museum. (We stayed nearby at the Hampton Inn and Suites, which was a
short 0.3-mile walk to the restaurant/bar.) Inside, guests can dine in the
high-ceiling space at the corrugated-tin-wrapped bar or at nearby tables; a
billiard table is available for entertainment. Outdoors, patrons can sit around
the firepit on the brick patio in wood Adirondack chairs, or on the raised
wooden deck at umbrella-topped wrought iron tables and chairs.
The Pickled Pig serves
barbecue cuisine, and everything (including the ketchup) is made in-house. As a
starter, we shared the smoked wings, served with crudite and bleu cheese
dressing. As our main courses, we ordered two sandwiches, both of which are
served on the restaurant’s signature hearty marbled bread called Dutch Crunch.
We shared the Reuben sandwich with a (huge!) side salad, and the patty melt (a
blend of brisket, short rib, and chuck) with a side of macaroni and cheese.
Everything was tasty with the exception of the mac and cheese, which literally tasted
like lighter fluid smells because too much liquid smoke flavoring was used.
(Evidently the chef agreed, because the restaurant ended up comping the dish as
well as removing it from the list of available sides that night.)
Except for the mac
and cheese (which the restaurant corrected), we enjoyed our meal at the Pickled
Pig, and we would give it a second chance.
