Lake George: The Pavilion at the Sagamore Resort (July 2019)

My spouse and I dined at the Pavilion on a Thursday afternoon in early July 2019. The Pavilion is open seasonally for lunch and dinner. Reservations are accepted for dinner only. Although casual dress is permitted at lunchtime (including bathing suit coverups), smart casual is requested in the evenings.

The Pavilion is located on private 70-acre Green Island at the 137-room Sagamore Resort on Lake George in Bolton Landing, New York. The hotel was originally built in 1883 (completely rebuilt in 1930 after a fire, then later restored in 1983, and again renovated in 2013), and it still retains its classic Victorian architecture including clapboard siding and Adirondack decor. The Sagamore is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a Preferred Hotel and Resort, an Historic Hotel of America, and holds the AAA Four-Diamond Award.

The Pavilion is a completely outdoor two-story restaurant located lakeside, so it offers tremendous views from both of its decks. The top deck is protected by a roll-out canopy when necessary, and the bottom level is protected by the top floor. The host stand and bar are located on the lower level, so guests must descend steps to reach them (an elevator is also available). Restrooms are located adjacent to the top level. Other on-property resort restaurants include The Lakehouse, Caldwell’s, La Bella Vita, Club Grill Steakhouse, Mr. Brown’s Pub, Splash Pool Bar, and Veranda Terraces.

The Pavilion serves continental cuisine. Because we did not have time for a long lingering lunch on our drive from our home in Pennsylvania to our final destination in Lake Placid, we ordered only main courses during our meal. We tried the lobster roll (served with fries) and the fish sandwich (also served with fries). Both were delicious, and portions were nearby and properly sized for the price.

We enjoyed our lunch at the Pavilion at the Sagamore Resort; the food was tasty, the service was good, and the view was stunning.
