Pittsburgh: Evangeline (November 2018)

Note: “Evangeline closed in early 2019 and was re-branded as “The Boulevard Lounge”.

Evangeline is the resident cocktail bar at the Distrikt Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. It opened for business in summer 2017. Located on the mezzanine above the hotel lobby, it offers open spaces speckled with seating areas of various configurations and a wide bar with sleek dark wood tones. In the morning, Evangeline is a coffee and pastry bar and at night it turns to cocktails and oysters.

The Gothic Revival style hotel structure was built in 1924 as the Salvation Army of Western PA, named after the first female General, Evangeline Booth. In 1951, Evangeline Residence was recognized as non-profit corporation organized and existed as an institution of benevolence and charity, consisting of 229 sleeping rooms, a dining room (which was operated exclusively for the residents of the building and the officers of the Salvation Army), a lounge, and other rooms.
