My spouse and I visited New York City for one night mid-week
in late November 2018 to see the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Not only did
we watch the parade itself, but we were also watched the balloon inflation near
the Museum of Natural History the night before the parade. We followed that unique
experience with drinks at the Dead Poet and then a great Israeli Druze dinner at
Gazala’s on the Upper West Side. Since our hotel, the Viceroy Central Park, was
only a half-block from the Sixth Avenue parade route, we didn’t need to wait by
the curb for hours beforehand. As it was the coldest Thanksgiving Day parade on
record, we were thrilled with how close we were able to stay to the parade. Because
we stood nearer to the beginning of the parade route than the end, we were able
to make a hasty exit from the city and be back in the Lehigh Valley in time for
Thanksgiving dinner with family. It was a great experience, and a check off the
bucket list!
