Allentown: Ringer's Roost (December 2017)

Ringers Roost - Many Friendly Regulars at This Busy Bar/Restaurant

My spouse and I dined at Ringers Roost for lunch on a Sunday in early December 2017. This restaurant/bar is open daily from 11:00 am until 2:00 am (only until 12:00 midnight on Sundays). The bar offers daily specials like wings on Mondays, tacos on Tuesdays, burgers on Wednesdays, and weekend drink and food specials. You can call to make a reservation.

Ringer’s Roost is located on Liberty Street (between 18th and 19th Streets) in Allentown’s Theatre District facing the Allentown Fairgrounds. Ringer’s Roost occupies the former space of the Green Door Hotel, although Ringer’s Roost has been in the Ringer family for nearly 50 years. Another restaurant called the “Other Side Eatery” occupies the other half of the historic twin home building. Complimentary parking is available in a dedicated off-street side lot, or you can park on a neighborhood street.

Ringer’s Roost offers several places to dine: at the long C-shaped bar, at high-top tables adjacent to the bar, or in a quieter small rear dining room. You can also dine outdoors on the 30-seat front covered patio. Tile and wood-laminate flooring, pendant lights, and a red quartz bar top provide an accent for the many autographed photographs of important athletes that hang on the walls.

Ringer’s Roost serves upscale pub food. We shared the napoleon won ton to start (three layers of crispy wonton piled high with lump crab, each layer accented by a different sauces like guacamole, Thai chili, and tequila lime). Next, we split the lamb sliders (three grilled mini lamb patties dabbed with tzatziki sauce on mini brioche buns) and the fish and chips (served with cole slaw). The food was good, encouraging us to return to try some additional, interesting-sounding menu items (like the chipotle meatballs, pierogis, shrimp and pork dumplings, fried chicken, and meatloaf).

We enjoyed our lunch at Ringer’s Roost – the food was good, and the atmosphere was energetic yet comfortable.
