Sarasota: Louies Modern (December 2016)

My spouse and I dined at Louies Modern with several family members on a Saturday night (Christmas Eve) in late December 2016. Louies Modern is open daily for dinner and on Sundays for brunch. You can reserve a table online using the Open Table reservation system or via telephone. Parking (generally complimentary) is offered in the Palm Avenue Garage (located above the restaurant).

Louies Modern, which opened in April 2013, is located in Downtown Sarasota on Palm Avenue, one block from Main Street. The restaurant offers limited outdoor seating on a covered sidewalk patio. A bar and lounge area offers daily happy hour specials from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, in addition to a full selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. The dining room is spacious and allows a peek into the open kitchen with wood-burning oven and grill. Décor includes wooden slat walls, modern seating including regular tables and some raised semi-circular booths, pendant lighting, and high fabric-covered ceilings. A private dining room is available to host small events. Louies Modern is operated by the Tableside Restaurant Group, owned by the Seidensticker family (Louie is the family patriarch, hence the restaurant’s name). Other restaurants holdings include Libby Café and Bar (Libby is the matriarch), Muse at the Ringling Museum, Lbar Spirits and Supper, Oak and Stone, Banyan Café, Modern Events, and The Francis.

Louies Modern serves New American cuisine. We shared some snacks and appetizers including the deviled eggs, soups, and salads (house, wedge) before we ordered our main courses, many of which featured fish dishes from the daily specials list (as well as the ribeye and the vegetable plate). We shared the beignets for dessert.

We enjoyed our family holiday dinner at Louies Modern, and we look forward to returning.
