My spouse and I enjoyed happy hour at the Mekong Riverview Hotel (near Wat Xieng Thong) in February 2013. The riverside patio restaurant at the Mekong Riverview has great views over the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers. We watched novice monks tend their gardens and skip rocks, just like young boys anywhere in the world. For such an excellent scenic location of a restaurant/bar, we expected prices to be higher; however, we had two rounds of drinks for $10 total. Located on the tip of peninsula, where Khan and Mekong rivers meet. Here you can listen to the silence, considered as the best location you can find in town. Viewpoint café offers you a fantastic view added to your breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is easy to eat a long breakfast in silence here and in the dinner at night the place has changed and gives you a cozy place with palm trees as your roof.
