Opening act Peter Wolf played an entertaining 50-minute, 13-song set during which the 71-year-old J. Geils Band front man was wildly mobile, dancing, hopping and spinning across the stage. Wolf noted that he shared the stage with Petty and The Heartbreakers 40 years ago. Wolf’s set was mostly bluesy and R&B rock, with just a few J. Geils Band hits – “Must Of Got Lost” (more sparse, but still good), “Cry One More Time” and “Give It To Me.” He didn’t sing the band’s biggest hits: “Love Stinks,” “Centerfold” or “Freeze Frame.” He also played his biggest solo hit, “Lights Out,” as a slower, bluesy song and lost its urgency. The best of his set was his “Long Line,” which he sang while sitting on the edge of the stage, deeply invested in his vocals.
