Algeciras: AC Algeciras (August 2006)

We loved the AC Algeciras! Everyone said not to stay in Algeciras, but it worked well for us (day trips to Gibraltar and Tangier) between stays in Seville and Granada.

We booked a business class/executive room, which was awesome! A sitting are with sofa, desk and flat-screen TV, a very modern (glass) bathroom, and a separate bedroom with king-size bed and another flat-screen TV. But the best part was the ENORMOUS terrace! It's definitely worth the extra money (which wasn't much) to upgrade from the standard or superior rooms. I found a better rate contacting the hotel directly than on the AC Hotels website, and that appeared to be the only way to book the business/executive room anyway. Free mini-bar at the hotel, too, which was GREATLY appreciated!

The lobby/lounge areas of the hotel were very hip and modern, and the restaurant was quite good. There weren't a lot of other restaurant choices within walking distance. We did have a great meal at La Posada de Millan, recommended by the hotel, which gave us an authentic view of Spanish life. A grocery store and gas station (with mini mart) were just a block away.
It may have been possible to walk to the ferry and bus/train stations, but I think it was just a bit too far for us. Cabs to any of them cost about 5 Euros each way, well worth the convenience. Have the front desk call a cab for you--it will arrive in mere minutes.

I was very happy with this hotel, and will check out their counterparts (it's a chain) in other cities in Spain.
