Pittsburgh: Industry Public House (August 2019)

My spouse and I visited Industry Public House for lunch on a Monday afternoon in late August 2019. Industry is open daily for lunch, dinner, drinks, late night, and everything in between.

Industry Public House opened in 2012 in a former mattress showroom/storefront on Butler Street in Lawrenceville. (There’s another location in Fayetteville.) Décor features lots of metal (in a nod to Pittsburgh’s history), exposed brick, reclaimed wood, filament lightbulbs, and industrial accents. In the main dining room/bar room, a large four-sided rectangular wooden bar with metal stools commands attention, with tables arranged on each side (some of which share a banquette on one side). At the front of the space, unique high-top tables made of steel beams have sliding wooden butcher-block tops that can be moved together or apart to create appropriately sized tables. At the rear of the main room, a semi-open kitchen offers a peek into the food-prep world. A side room offers overflow dining in a quieter, more private space.

Industry serves American comfort food, with its menu presented on a small clipboard full of papers. Starters, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and entrees are offered. A full liquor license (beer, wine, cocktails) is available. We shared the nachos (made with choice of protein) to start, followed by the “smoke stack” sandwich (shaved beef with cheese, arugula, and horseradish sauce on sourdough bread).

We enjoyed our lunch at Industry Public House: good food and service in a nice atmosphere.
