Center Valley: Limeport Inn (November 2016)





My spouse and I dined at the Limeport Inn for dinner on a Saturday afternoon in early November 2016. (We have dined here at least one time per summer over the past few years.) The restaurant is open daily (except Mondays) for lunch and dinner, and it accepts reservations (which are necessary on a weekend evening) by telephone. The property offers plenty of complimentary parking in their dedicated lot. The owners of the Limeport Inn also operate the Jamison Publick House in Pennsburg.

The Limeport Inn, which opened in 2001, occupies an historic country inn/stage coach house built in 1845. It can be difficult to locate the inn, which sets alongside a winding country road in Lower Milford Township. (However, less than five miles from Route 309 in Upper Saucon Township/Center Valley.) The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining. Indoors, you can choose to sit in one of three areas: the bar (either at the bar itself or at regular tables) and two dining rooms. Wood floors, wainscoting, and molding contrast nicely with the stone walls, and soft lighting create a cozy effect. Décor in the dining rooms leans toward the country style, including wreaths and framed pictures, with cloth-covered tables. The bar room décor features vintage memorabilia like cleverly worded signs, antique thermoses and coolers, and tile-topped tables. In the warmer weather, the Inn has a lovely tree-shaded brick patio with a fountain where you can dine al fresco.


The Limeport Inn serves creative American cuisine as well as traditional pub fair in a comfortable atmosphere. A server delivered two slices of delicious Irish soda bread with raisins and house-made butter while we perused the menu (it was so delicious that we could have eaten a whole basket full). Shared the Asian pork meatballs with sesame cole slaw and crispy wonton chips. Entrees came with garden salads that included mixed greens, breakfast radish slice, cucumber, and heirloom grape tomatoes, and croutons, with your choice of homemade dressing (the basil parmesan was excellent). For entrees, we ordered the salmon (crusted with cashews and served with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts) and the scallops (topped with a creamy bacon vinaigrette and served with mushrooms and asparagus, gnocchi). For dessert, we shared one of the seasonal offerings: pumpkin chocolate chip cake (with whipped cream and a sliced strawberry).


We liked our dinner in the bar room at the Limeport Inn; this is the first time that we dined indoors instead of on the outdoor patio, and the laid-back atmosphere and interesting menu options remain pleasing and enjoyable.
