San Antonio: Oro at the Emily Morgan (July 2013)

My spouse and I dined at Oro at the (Doubletree) Emily Morgan for lunch in early July 2013. We made a reservation for lunch using the Open Table reservation system, although the restaurant did not seem to care about our reservation when we arrived. (We just wanted to make sure that Open Table did not mark us as a no-show if the restaurant did not acknowledge that we arrived.)

The Emily Morgan hotel is located adjacent to the Alamo, so it is a great spot to refresh yourself either before, during, or after your visit to the Alamo. Seating is primarily indoors, with just a few tables for two on the sidewalk. The bar area is large and opens directly into the lobby of the hotel. Restrooms are downstairs near the meeting/conference rooms. The food was better-than-average hotel fare. The restaurant has both booth and table seating. Service was not flawless - we ordered macaroni and cheese with an add-on of pulled brisket (as stated on the menu), but the dish arrived sans meat. Gulf shrimp tacos were really fresh-tasting, and the brisket banh mi sandwich was also a hit.

Although we would not recommend traveling out of your way to eat at Oro, it is one of the more upscale options located near the Alamo.
