My spouse and I stayed at the Marriott Chatham Center in the fall of 2000. This
property has 396 rooms and 6 suites. With the
perfect combination of style and substance, the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center
has established itself as a premier hotel destination for business and leisure
travelers. Our hotel in downtown Pittsburgh features refurbished luxury
accommodations and the friendly service you'd expect from an award-winner. Make
yourself at home in your comfortable room or suite filled with And let's not
forget our truly remarkable location in the heart of Pittsburgh; whether you're
in town to visit CONSOL Energy Center, attend an event at the Pittsburgh
Convention Center, or stroll the campus of Duquesne University, we make it
simple and stress-free for you to experience the city. Uptown and the Strip
District are moments away as well. We look forward to your visit at the
Pittsburgh Marriott City When originally opened in
1966, the hotel on the upper half of the building was a 450 room Howard
Johnson's Motor Lodge. The Motor Lodge included a pool on the eleventh floor, a
bar, restaurant, and signature Red Coach Grille. The Chatham Center Howard
Johnson was designed to be an upscale hotel version of the traditional
road-side Howard Johnson.[7] Hyatt Corp took over the hotel site in
1976 and renamed the hotel, the Pittsburgh Hyatt House at Chatham Center.
Extensive renovations took place and the number of hotel rooms were reduced to
406.[4] The hotel made one last change in 1996
when it was sold to Marriott and underwent a new $8 million renovation; it is
currently operated under the name of the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center Hotel.
