Ljubljana: Soba 102 (August 2016)

Soba 102 - Sit on the Sidewalk Patio and Enjoy Happy Hour Specials

My spouse and I enjoyed an early dinner at Soba 102 on a Friday afternoon in early September 2016. Soba is open Mondays through Wednesdays from 8:00 am until 11:00 pm, with extended hours until 12:00 midnight or 1:00 am on weekends. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. Soba 102 accepts reservations via telephone or using their website.

Slovenian pop star Jan Plestenjak (and his business partner from Menart Records) own the restaurant. In fact, the restaurant name, Soba 102 (which means “Room 102”) is derived from one of Jan’s songs, which is meant to describe a place where we all feel at home. The restaurant is located between Old Town and Tivoli Park on the street-level of a block of 19th and 20th century historic buildings. You enter the restaurant from pedestrian-only Cankarjeva Cesta (street), near the Hotel Slon and NAMA Department Store. Parking is available on a nearby street or in a parking garage.
The contemporary restaurant interior features high ceilings, showy lighting, big windows, and a large bar. You can dine at a high-top table near the front, or at a regular table, some of which share a long padded camel-colored leather banquette on one side. Décor includes exposed brick walls hung with vintage black-and-white photographs of legendary Slovenian singers. Soba 102 also offers outdoor dining space on the pedestrian-only sidewalk, where you can sit at weathered teak table and chairs under cover of huge umbrellas. In addition, the restaurant offers private event space on its basement level; restrooms are also located below ground at the end of a long corridor.

The Soba 102 menu offers international cuisine, including pastas, pizza, salads, and burgers. We each ordered one of the happy hour food special, which was large, well stacked bacon cheeseburgers accompanied by thickly cut steak fries (served with ramekins of mayonnaise and French dressing for dipping) presented on wood cutting boards. Our bill totaled about 50 Euros for the burgers, four rounds of drinks, and one dessert (Jaffa cheesecake, with chocolate and orange layers covered in a chocolate ganache).

We enjoyed our happy hour evening meal on the sidewalk patio at Soba 102.
