Whistler: Beacon Pub & Eatery (August 2014)

My spouse and I dined at Beacon Pub and Eatery for sunset cocktails and appetizers late on a Thursday afternoon in early August 2014. We did not have a reservation, but the hostess seated us at a table near the edge of the raised stone patio with a great view of the Village Square. Beacon Pub is located toward the middle of the Village Stroll (in the Village Square), near the grocery store and the liquor store. The Beacon Pub is open daily for lunch, dinner, apres-ski, and drinks.

Beacon Pub is located at the Crystal Lodge and Suites and fills the space that previously occupied by the restaurant Citta Bistro. This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, with the outdoor tables topped by umbrellas and surrounded by flower planters that are incorporated into a stone wall. The restaurant also features a retractable awning over a portion of the patio. Stand-up propane heaters are available (which you need at night even in the summertime).

Although our server was friendly and helpful, the hostesses attempted to overlook us as a couple in favor of helping and seating young single men.

We shared a dip made with whitefish and potatoes topped with breadcrumbs, served warm with sliced pieces of baguette. This dip was plentiful enough for two people to share; however, the restaurant did not provide a sufficient number of bread slices (and we piled on the dip!). Our server told us that no desserts were available (none!) because the restaurant was newly opened and the chef was still working on the menu.

We might dine at the Beacon Pub again after the restaurant finalizes its menu. It is a great location to people-watch!
