My spouse and I stayed at the Caribbean Village Playacar for six nights in late February 2000. The Caribbean Village chain is owned by Allegro Resorts, which is part of the Occidental Hotels & Resorts group. This all-inclusive resort is located 40 minutes south of Cancun, on the golf course, not on the beach. (The beach is a 10-minute shuttle bus ride away, and hosts a beach club with non-motorized water sports, and a snack bar that serves (included) food and drinks. The hotel features 300 rooms set in one-, two-, and three-story villas, and offers nightly entertainment. The resort has two swimming pools, as well as a kiddie pool, and two restaurants: the Calypso (buffet) and Mexican.
