My spouse and I dined at The Vault for dinner on a Saturday evening in late September 2015. The Vault is located in the space that previously housed Dim Sum GoGo. The Vault is open for lunch and dinner daily. The restaurant offers a few parking spaces (perhaps six) in a side parking lot (although most of the spaces are reserved for other businesses and apartments); otherwise, parking is available on the street.
The Vault draws
its name from the fact that the space formerly housed a bank. The actual vault
is located behind the bar. The restaurant space has high ceilings and seating
in a few booths but mostly at regular tables. In warmer months, a side patio and
additional bar provides al fresco dining.
The Vault offers
contemporary American cuisine with a focus on local products. We shared several
small dishes: the caramelized scallops, calamari, lamb sliders, and pork belly.
The restaurant was only offering selections from their tapas menu on the night
that we visited; since then, the restaurant has added many entrée options. We
thought that the food was delicious, although for every dish, there seemed to
be an ingredient missing or a substitution made for what was listed on the menu
(perhaps the restaurant had not yet received all of their provisions yet on the
night that we dined). Portions were larger than traditional tapas (in fact,
they were enormous portions compared to the tapas that we enjoyed for lunch at
Terrapin in Rhinebeck). We were full after ordering two per person, and we have
hearty appetites. Sadly, almost no desserts were available on their opening
weekend, but we have since read reviews proclaiming their sweet potato bundt
cake and coconut custard pie to be excellent; both desserts that we would have
loved to try. (Instead, we stopped at the 84 Diner to pick up a tiramisu cake
that looked amazing but was very disappointing.)
Service was
attentive; there were many more staff members available than tables to wait on.
We would return
to the vault; the menu is interesting, the food was tasty, and the service was
good.
