My spouse and I visited Wahlburgers on a Monday afternoon in
late November 2019. The restaurant is open daily for lunch, dinner, and late
night. Online ordering is available at this location, but reservations do not
seem to be accepted (however, telephone them to make sure).
Wahlburgers is owned by the Wahlberg family, including chef
Paul and celebrity actor brothers Mark and Donnie. The first location opened in
Hingham, Massachusetts, and has expanded to include more than 38 locations in 18 states and 3 countries.
The brothers also operate another restaurant called Alma Nove, named after their
mother and the fact that she had nine children. The Fenway location of
Wahlburgers is located on Brookline Avenue in the Back Bay, next door to the
Yard House and across the street from the Residence Inn (where we stayed). This
location of the chain offers a take-out fast food option in the front of the
space, with full-service seated dining in the rear. The dining room/bar area
spans the width of one block, with a back entrance on Van Ness Street. Al
fresco dining is available on the Van Ness side in appropriate weather. Patrons
can dine at booths, stand-alone tables (with bright lime green metal chairs),
or at the bar. Décor includes framed photographs and interesting ceiling panels
that contain the names of movies and TV shows in which Mark and Donnie have
appeared. A small “swag” area sells restaurant souvenirs like T-shirts, baseball
caps, and mugs.
Wahlburgers serves burgers (not just beef, but also turkey
and plant-based), sandwiches, bowls, and salads. During our lunch visit, we tried
the full-service side of the restaurant and ordered the standard cheeseburger
and the supermelt (patty melt), along with the tater tots and the macaroni
salad. Food and service were good. One evening, as a take-out dessert, we tried
the Fluffanutta sandwich (sliced bananas, peanut butter, Nutella spread between
two pieces of grilled bread).
We enjoyed our dining experience at Wahlburgers.
