My spouse and I visited the Yard House twice in late
November 2019, once for lunch on Sunday and then again for dinner on Monday.
Yard House is open daily for lunch, dinner, drinks, snacks, and late night.
Although the restaurant does not generally accept reservations, they maintain a
wait list and post current wait times online.
The Boston location of Yard House is located in the Back Bay/Fenway
Triangle area on Brookline Avenue, next door to Marshalls and Wahlburgers and
across the street from the Residence Inn (where we stayed). The dining room/bar
area spans the width of one block, with a back entrance on Van Ness Street. Al
fresco dining is available on the Van Ness side in appropriate weather.
The Yard House chain includes 80+ locations in 28+ states.
The chain is affiliated with Darden Restaurants, which also owns chains
including the Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen,
Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52, Eddie V’s, and The Capital Grille.
One of the Yard Houses’s “claims to fame” is that each
location offers over 100 beers on tap. In addition, the Yard House serves
upscale comfort food with a twist. For our first meal (lunch), we started with
the hummus topped with ground lamb and pistachios served with crispy pita
chips. As our main dishes, we ordered the vampire tacos (served with spicy rice
and beans) and the chicken enchilada stack. For dessert, we loved the bread
pudding served atop crème anglaise. For our second meal (dinner), we shared the
Brussel sprouts and potatoes (served atop a dipping sauce) as a starter. For
our main dishes, we ordered the fish and chips (served with a very spicy
jalapeno tartar sauce) and abuela’s chicken (we substituted the spicy rice
[which we did not like the day prior] for jasmine rice. For dessert, we shared
the peach cobbler topped with ice cream.
We enjoyed both of our meals at the Yard House; service and
food were good and we liked the casual atmosphere.
