My spouse and I dined at
Maggie’s Pub for lunch on a Saturday afternoon in early July 2019. Maggie’s Pub
is open for lunch and dinner daily. Although reservations are accepted for the
adjacent more formal restaurant called Artisans, Maggie’s is first come-first
served.
Maggie’s Pub is located at
the gorgeous Lake Placid Lodge (a Relais and Chateaux property), one floor down
from the lobby area (an elevator is available), gift shop, and parking lot. It
offers seating both indoors and outdoors; the latter seating is at
twig-and-bark furniture on a large covered deck with a huge outdoor stone
fireplace at the center and with stunning views of Lake Placid. Indoors, a
wood-paneled dining room offers a small bar, stacked stone fireplace, table
seating, comfortable lounge seating, and games (billiards, puzzles, board games,
books). The décor is one-of-a-kind, with lots of wood, antiques, throw rugs,
and plaid and animal prints.
Maggie’s Pub serves
continental cuisine. We shared a lovely cheese and charcuterie board to start
(one of the best we’ve ever had, with duck breast, pate, cheeses, jam and
mustard, and baguette slices), followed by a blackened fish sandwich
(accompanied by housemade potato chips) and the rustic chicken pot pie (with peas,
carrots, potatoes, and topped with a rectangular square of layed phyllo puff
pastry). For dessert, we shared the peach cobbler, layered in a tiny mason jar
and served with homemade ice cream set atop graham cracker crumbles. Although
Maggie’s Pub offers a full liquior license (beer, wine, and cocktails), we also
sampled two of the x restaurant’s beautifully presented non-alcoholic
offerings.
Our meal outdoors on the deck
at Maggie’s Pub within view of Lake Placid was the most enjoyable and memorable
of our entire vacation.
