DC: Smithsonian Museum of African American History (February 2019)

Our review for this museum will be short and sweet – we had planned to visit on a Sunday afternoon in mid-February, but when we reached the museum, we were not permitted entry because we hadn’t pre-ordered tickets. Guests who visit during peak months (March through August) and on all weekends require timed-entry tickets reserved online and in advance, although tickets are not needed on weekdays or at off-peak times (September through February). Tickets are available online up to 3 months in advance using the eTix website, starting on the first Wednesday of every month. Same-day online passes are available beginning at 6:30 am on weekends; no walk-up entry is permitted on weekends. We live less than 4 hours from DC and return there from time to time, so we will have another chance to see this museum, but we want to warn other visitors who may have a once-in-a-lifetime trip to get their tickets in advance so they are not disappointed like we were!
