My spouse and I had drinks at Orville’s Pub and Grille on a
Saturday afternoon in mid-August 2018. Orville’s is open daily from 11:00 am
until 5:00 pm. The venue is located at the Nemacolin Field Club; hotel guests
are transported via dedicated shuttle bus about 4 miles to the club. (The same
type of resort shuttle bus is used; however, it does not operate as frequently
[perhaps every 30 minutes] and not on-demand.)
The Nemacolin Field Club is a 140-acre sport shooting
complex with 35 shooting stations and 2 multi-stand pavilions (one of which had
an old-style wood-burning stove); all stations have a covered place from which to
shoot, primarily from wood gazebos stationed around the property spread across
two courses. The club also offers archery and air rifle targets aimed at
younger patrons.
Orville’s Pub is part of the field house, which also houses
a small gift/pro shop that doubles as the check-in area for shooting and
fishing. Orville’s occupies part of the main room in the building, which has a
wood-clad, high-ceilinged interior decorated with taxidermy. Leather sofas in
front of a stone fireplace provide a comfy place to relax, or guests can sit at
regular tables and chairs, at stools around the adorably themed bar, or the
adjacent enclosed climate-controlled sun porch. Restrooms with lockers are also
onsite.
Orville’s Pub and Grille reportedly serves sandwiches,
snacks, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages, but on the day that we visited, only
hot dogs, packaged chips, and a mostly full bar were available. We each drank a
beer to celebrate the end of our first shooting experience.
We enjoyed our sporting clay experience at the Field Club,
and we liked the casual atmosphere of the club house and Orville’s Pub.
