My spouse and I and
our driver stopped at the Konoba Riva (Restaurant Riva) for drinks on a
Thursday afternoon in early September 2016. The restaurant is located on the
waterfront promenade (Obala Bara Berislavica) in the historic area of Trogir.
The restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from May through
October. You can reserve a table online using their website. This huge
restaurant offers limited indoor seating but extensive outdoor seating both on
the harborside and in an open interior courtyard. In fact, the restaurant seems
so expansive that it offers entrances on two different streets in the “block”.
Outdoors, you can sit at a traditional table and chairs under cover of an
umbrella, or in one of the lounge groupings with chairs/outdoor sofas and
coffee/side tables. Palm trees tower above, and seasonal potted foliage decorates
the patio. You can watch people as they stroll along the riverside sidewalk,
observe the fancy yachts as they dock and sail in the harbor, or enjoy the
views across the river and bridges to the less-touristy residential part of the
city. Although we did not try the food, the restaurant offers a wide variety of
menu items, from pizzas, salads, and sandwiches to entrees like pasta, steaks,
and seafood. (After we completed a short tour of Trogir, we were walking back
to the car when it started to drizzle, so we stopped at the Riva for drinks to
wait for the rain to end.) Our bill for one round of drinks for three people (one
karlovacko [beer], one cockta [a Slovenian soft drink made of different herbs],
and one gazirana [carbonated cola]) cost approximately 57 Kuna (less than $10
USD). Although you might find a less expensive restaurant with better food or
service in the neighborhood, the location of the Riva is excellent. It was a
pleasant place to enjoy drinks!
