Miami: Liquor Lounge (July 2016)

My spouse and I enjoyed visited the Liquor Lounge Café on a Saturday afternoon for happy hour in early July 2016. The Liquor Lounge Café is open daily from 12:00 noon until 5:00 am. The Liquor Lounge is a neighborhood-type bar located in South Beach on busy Collins Avenue at 16th Street, across the corner from the Loews hotel.

The Liquor Lounge is located in a curved-front building with high ceilings. The interior offers a long wooden bar, wood high-top tables with stools, low-top tables with club-style chairs, and communal high-top tables. For entertainment, a billiards table, many flat-screen TVs (including one large-screen TV that was broadcasting an important soccer tournament when we visited), a dance floor, jukebox, and karaoke are available. The front patio offers a place to sit outdoors at metal tables and chairs. Note that the Liquor Lounge allows smoking indoors.

The Liquor Lounge menu features American bar food like pizza and burgers. Our server informed us that they do not serve French fries, because they do not have a fryer. We wanted to order an appetizer to share along with a few rounds of drinks, and the offerings were rather slim. (Without a fryer, a bar cannot offer many of the usual bar snacks.) We shared the nachos with beef, which were tasty, although we had low expectations.

As with most South Beach bars and restaurants, the Liquor Lounge adds an automatic 15% gratuity to your bill, which was unfortunate for our server because she provided great service and we would have normally received at least 20%. Reportedly, the bar never implements a cover change, and it also offers drink specials if you are on a budget.

The Liquor Lounge worked well for an inexpensive happy hour stop.
