My spouse and I dined at FX McRory’s Steak Chop and Oyster House for
lunch on a Monday afternoon in early August 2014. This restaurant does
not accept reservations; however, the expansive space easily
accommodates large numbers of diners. This restaurant is located in the
Pioneer Square neighborhood of Seattle close to CenturyLink Field (home
of the Seahawks) and Safeco Field (home of the Mariners). It is open for
lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday. McRory’s is closed on Sundays
except during some sporting events.
This property opened in
1977 as a drug store that also supplied whiskey. It features a grand
entrance via a marble staircase at the corner of Occidental Avenue South
and South King Street. The restaurant owns a beautiful outdoor vintage
clock near that same corner, although located on Occidental Avenue. This
establishment has both indoor and outdoor seating. Patrons can dine
outdoors on a sidewalk patio on South King Street or on a raised deck on
Occidental Avenue South. Inside, the restaurant has an oyster bar,
regular long bar (McRory’s serves over 25 beers on draft), both table
and booth seating, and a private banquet room.
Our friendly
server gave us a useful tip about a baseball game, which we later
attended the next evening. This restaurant is an excellent choice for a
meal or a drink before and / or after either a baseball game or a
football game; it is possibly the closest establishment to both of those
venues.
We shared the calamari served with lemon aioli sauce as
an appetizer, followed by two entrees: grilled scampi served with garlic
mashed potatoes and green beans, and a fish stew. For dessert, we
shared house-made strawberry-rhubarb cobbler topped with vanilla ice
cream.
We had a good lunch at FX McRory’s, and we would visit again before a Seahawks or Mariners game.
