My spouse and I dined at Iron Cactus for dinner in early July 2013. We wanted to enjoy some Tex-Mex food while we were in San Antonio, and on the surface, this restaurant seemed to fit the bill. This restaurant features both indoor and outdoor seating, with the outdoor seating on a large patio adjacent to the Riverwalk. The food was fairly good, although not noticeably better than what we can get in our hometown. However, they did have some unique menu options that we would not normally see where we are from. The restaurant was quite busy on the night that we dined, but although we did not have a reservation, we did not wait at the small bar for more than 10 minutes before we were seated at our table. It was not even enough time to order a drink at the bar, although the restaurant has an extensive drink menu, including many types of tequila. The service was lacking, unfortunately. One component was missing from my entrée plate, and it was never delivered until after we had finished the rest of our meal, mainly because our server never came back to check on our progress. We saw other tables who also had issues, although they did not share the same server. The manager attempted to make the situation right, with a discount on our total bill. We would have preferred that the manager pitch in to deliver food and check on tables when needed, but he appeared to have an arm injury and was thus unable to physically assist his servers. This restaurant does a lot of advertising, and offers coupons in some of the local tourist papers.
Because of the service issues that we experienced, it is a little difficult to recommend this restaurant. There are many similar Tex-Mex options along the Riverwalk that you may want to try instead.
